Prescott, AZ
Opening its doors in November 2012, this new Southwest bookstore flies bravely in the face of industry trends, making it a rare bird, indeed. Housed in a building that was once home to a mining supply company, Peregrine Books boasts an unusually wide-ranging collection of literary magazines; new, used and bargain books; a children’s section with a colorful mural by a prominent local artist; and, a calendar sprinkled with book readings that focus on the land and its people. Ongoing events include Saturday-morning storytelling for infants and preschoolers and Monday-evening discussions of books on “esoteric truth” for adults. Leather chairs offer comfortable places to sit and read under skylights that funnel in the glow of the Arizona sun.
