Ask any longtime Denver resident for the best place to shop for books and you’ll be directed to the Tattered Cover which recently celebrated forty years in business. From a cramped 960-square-foot shop, Tattered Cover has expanded to three locations. The Colfax store is housed in a former live theater; in the downtown’s historic LoDo neighborhood, Tattered Cover fills two floors of an old mercantile building. Tattered Cover celebrates local writers, recently launched its own press and hosts some 500 events annually. A wall of celebrity photos tracks many of the great names – Julia Child, for one – who’ve appeared behind its lecterns.
